Newsletter: 11/01/13

Dear Parents/Carers,

Happy New Year
Welcome back to the start of our new term.  Even though it seems a long time ago, I hope you had an enjoyable break with your family.  We now look forward to spring and longer days!

During the first three weeks of May children in all year groups [except reception and year 1] throughout England have their annual assessments.  KS2 (Year 6) SATs tests will take place during the week commencing the 13th May.  We would also ask all families to avoid taking holidays during this period.

Borrowed Clothes and Wet Play
Please return clothes lent to your child if they have fallen over and borrowed dry clothes from the school.  We are very short now and will not be able to supply clean trousers.

Also, if your child has outgrown any trousers, leggings, pants, knickers or socks please could you donate them to the school.  During wet weather you may want to consider sending your child with a change of clothes.

No Nuts in Packed Lunches
Just a reminder that we do not allow nuts in the school as some children have nut allergies.  This includes cereal bars which may have nuts in them. Also, we do not allow children to have sweets in their packed lunches.

Help Required To Train Year 5/6 Cross Country Running
Would you be willing, or do you know anyone, who would be willing to come in and help train a group of Year 5/6 either in a lunch time or after school?  They are hoping to compete in the school’s county championship at the end of March and would appreciate any help you can offer.  Please contact the school office if you are able to help.

Play Equipment Before and After School
Just a reminder to parents and carers,  please do not let your children play with the large toys in the reception area or on any of the school play equipment before or after school. This is a health and safety issue and the equipment is only for use during school hours when supervised by a member of staff.

Bottle Top Collection
Thank you to everyone who collected bottle tops over the Christmas holidays. The Year 6 pupils are doing an art collage with them and so we could do with a lot more!  Between now and the end of January we would appreciate parents, family and friends continuing to collect for us. Please could you collect plastic bottle tops of all sizes and bring them to the school office by Monday, 4th February.  Many thanks.

Christmas Hampers
Thank you to Lyla Virgo from Mrs Hackett’s class for picking the following winners of the PTA Christmas hampers:

  • 1st Prize – Jayne Bacon
  • 2nd Prize – Diane (c/o of Emily Hart)
  • 3rd Prize – Liz (c/o of Katie Edwards)

Farmhouse Breakfast Week 21st to 25th January
The Breakfast Club will be celebrating ‘Farmhouse Breakfast Week’ and if your child has never been to the Breakfast Club before this may be a good week to come along. It has been well documented that breakfast is the most important meal of the day with many health and nutritional benefits that help make children better learners. Our chef Kevin will be providing alternative menus such as dippy egg and soldiers, beans on toast and hot chocolate drink to celebrate this week.

Please let the office know by next Friday, 18th January if your child would like to come along and which day they will be coming.  Breakfast club arrival is between 7.45am and 8.15am and the cost is £2.50 which covers supervision and breakfast.

Yours sincerely

Stephanie Tabram
