Newsletter: 24/10/12

Dear Parents/Carers,

Operation Christmas Child – Send A Shoebox!
Along with this newsletter is a leaflet on how to fill a shoebox! Each year more and more of our children are filling shoeboxes which are sent to children who will otherwise have no Christmas presents. These boxes go all over the world to those children most in need.

Last year we sent 62 boxes from our families!  If you need any spare leaflets, let us know.  Just a reminder not to wrap the presents that are going into the box as each box is individually checked.  We need to have boxes back to the office by Monday, 19th November.

School Trips and Dinner Money
Just a reminder that all money that comes into school needs to be in an envelope with your child’s name, class teacher, what the money is for and how much is in the envelope.  Thank you.

Year 6 – Final Reminder: Admission To Secondary School
This is to remind parents that they must fill in an application form to the County Admissions Department in order to ensure your child has a place for next September. Please can you note that your child does not automatically go to Swavesey Village College.

It is essential that you personally fill in the admission form as it is not the school’s responsibility.  The closing date for applications is Wednesday, 31st October.

PTA Pop Quiz
Just a reminder that this will take place on Saturday, 17th November starting at 7.30pm.  You can have up to a team of 8 and the cost is £4.50 per person. Forms are available from the school office.  Bitesize Catering will be selling food on the night.

School Photos
Please return any orders to the office by Monday, 5th November.  If you miss the deadline, you can order on line.

Absence Letters
If your child is going to be off school, please remember to phone in and leave a message either on the answer machine or with someone in the office for each day they are off. Upon their return, please make sure your child has an absence note for the teacher which has the dates of the days they were off.  If you do not send in an absence note to the teacher, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

New Project for the School
I am delighted to announce that we will be piloting a new project for the Local Authority (LA) after half-term, to provide an outreach classroom for up to five Key Stage 1 children. These children will have previously been taught at home and this will help them take the next step towards returning to their school. These children will be based in the ‘yellow room’ in the Key Stage 1 area which has been completely refurbished by the LA who will also provide the staffing for this new project. In the first instance, there will only be one child attending after half-term from 9.30am to 2.45pm. As well as providing a valuable boost for the development of these children, there are many benefits for our school from participating in this project such as having access to the expertise of the specialist staff and having annual income from the let.

No School Friday! – Training Day and Half-Term
Just a reminder that there is no school this Friday (26th October) as the teachers have a training day.  Also, half-term holiday will be next week Monday, 29th October to Friday, 2nd November.  We hope you and your children have a lovely half-term week and we look forward to them coming back on Monday, 5th November.

Best wishes

Lin Whyte
