Dear Parents/Carers

Harvest Festival
All grandparents and senior citizens are warmly invited to attend our Harvest Celebration with our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children. It will be held this Wednesday, 17th October at 10.00am in the school hall. It will be followed by tea, coffee and cakes in the studio.

All our children will be collecting food items for the Cambridge Food Bank. Types of food that can be effectively distributed include tinned and packet foods, sugar, tea, coffee, pasta, rice and cereals.  Thank you for your support.

Year 6 Applications To Secondary School – Reminder to Parents
The national closing date for Year 7 applications is 31st October 2012.  Any applications received after this date will be considered as late and will not be considered until after all on-time applications.

Any applications received after 31st October 2012 will not be considered in the first round of school place allocations on  1st March 2013, but will be included in the second round of allocations in April 2013.

If parents submit applications after the closing date, there is a good chance your child will not get into their preferred secondary school even if they live in the catchment area.

Asthma and Other Medical Conditions
It has come to our attention that a number of children have said they have asthma but they do not keep an inhaler in school.  Please could parents let us know of any other medical conditions you feel we need to know about.

BBC Radio Cambridgeshire
Today Jeremy Sallis from Radio Cambridgeshire came in and had a tour of the school and interviewed various children and the headteacher. Jeremy’s programme is Monday to Friday from 3.00pm to 5.00pm.  Next week between 3.00pm and 4.00pm there will be various snippets from Jeremy’s time at Bar Hill School with Monday having the longest air time.

Operation Christmas Child – Send A Shoebox!
Sometime in the next two weeks we will be sending out a leaflet on how to fill a shoebox! Each year more and more of our children are filling shoeboxes which are sent to children who will otherwise have no Christmas presents. These boxes go all over the world to those children most in need.

Last year we sent 62 boxes from our families!  If you need any spare leaflets, let us know. We need to have boxes back to the office by Monday, 19th November.

Training Day and Half-Term
Just a reminder that there is no school on Friday, 26th October as the teachers have a training day.  Also, half-term holiday will be from Monday, 29th October to Friday, 2nd November.

Yours sincerely

Lin Whyte
