Dear Parents/Guardians

Science Week – Monday, 18th to Friday, 22nd May
Monday sees the start of science week. It promises to be a fun and interesting week for the children.

If you have not sent in your £2 for the ‘Quantum Theatre’ production on the Friday morning we would be most appreciative if you could do that at the start of next week.

Also, your child’s class teacher will let you know what day their class will be working in the school vegetable plot so you can send along an old pair of shoes or wellies.

Request From Year 3 and 4
Do you have any unwanted Tudor costumes at home that you no longer need?  If you are willing to donate them to the school, please bring them to the school office or the middles classroom.

Request From Year 1
The year 1 children are hoping to develop their outside area this summer term.

Have your children outgrown any outside children’s garden furniture (table, chairs, picnic table, or Wendy house)?

If you have any you are willing to donate to the school, please talk to Claire Higgins or Emily Lewney.

Tesco and Sainsbury Vouchers, Flora Cooking With Schools,  Box Tops For Education
Many thanks for all the vouchers we have been receiving.  Please continue to encourage friends and families to collect vouchers for us.

We are also collecting tokens from Flora margarine tubs (Free Cooking Equipment For Schools) and Box Tops For Education of Nestle cereals.

Gardening Afternoons
Just a reminder that tomorrow and Sunday afternoon there will be a member of staff down at the school vegetable plot and the reception class garden plot from 2.00pm to 4.00pm both afternoons.  If you could come help on either of those two days to help clear the plots, we would be most appreciative.  There will be drinks and biscuits to keep us going!

It would be helpful if you could bring garden forks, spades, secateurs and tub trugs/buckets to supplement school supplies.

Do you have any vegetable plants that you are willing to donate to the school vegetable plot?  We would be thrilled to receive any spare you might have.  It can be any time over the next month or so.

World Environment Day
On the 5th June all over the world more than 100 countries will be celebrating World Environment Day.  The theme this year is:  ‘Your Planet Needs You To Unite To Combat Climate Change’.

On that day the United Nations Environment Programme is hoping everyone will plant something.  We would like every child in the school to bring in something they can plant (eg vegetable plant or a  flower plant ).  More details nearer the time.

Family Fun Day At Elsworth and Cottenham Primary School
From 10.00am to 12 noon at Elsworth and 2.00pm to 4.00pm at Cottenham on Thursday, 28th May the Children’s Locality Team will be holding two free Family Fun Days.  There will be arts and crafts, face painting, decorating biscuits, stencil painting and a baby and toddler area.  Come along and join in for this half-term fun.

Best wishes

Dear Parents/Guardians

Science Week – Monday, 18th to Friday, 22nd May
Calling all scientists!  Are there any parents or grandparents out there who would be willing to come in during science week to talk to the children about their speciality?  Please contact the school office if you can help.

Tesco and Sainsbury Vouchers
Many thanks for all the vouchers we have been receiving.  Please continue to encourage friends and families to collect vouchers for us.

Flora Cooking With Schools
We are also collecting tokens from Flora margarine tubs (Free Cooking Equipment For Schools).

Hungary/Germany Comenius/Esperanto Exchange Visit To The School
We had a very exciting 5 days with our visitors from Hungary and Germany. Many thanks to the families and members of staff who hosted our visitors.

Summer Sports Day
The sports days will now take place on the school playing field starting at 1.30pm on the following dates:

  • Reception, Years 1 &2        Thursday, 25th June
  • Years 3, 4, 5 & 6                    Wednesday, 10th June

School Vegetable Plot
Do you have any vegetable plants that you are willing to donate to the school vegetable plot?  We would be thrilled to receive any spare you might have.  Either bring them to the school office or call the office and we can collect them from you.

During Science Week we are hoping to get the children involved with the vegetable plot.  Therefore, we could use some help to get the vegetable bed sorted the weekend of Saturday, 16th May (from 2.00pm to 4.00pm) and Sunday, 17th May (from 2.00pm to 4.00pm).  If you could come help on either of those two days to help clear the plot, we would be most appreciative.  Let Mrs Lewney in the office know if you can help.  A member of staff will be there on both days.  There will be drinks and biscuits to keep us going!

Bikes and Scooter
Just a reminder that bikes and scooters should not be ridden within school property.  Once your child has entered the school gates they must get off their bike or scooter and walk it.

Danny’s Garden
At the back of the school, between the middles and infant blocks, an ex-Bar Hill pupil, James Hobbs has recently finished ‘Danny’s Garden’.

Danny Finn was a pupil at Bar Hill School when he sadly died at the age of 9.  The garden is a memorial garden in his memory.

Many thanks to James for all the planning, preparation and hard work he put into the garden.  It will be enjoyed by many.

Finally, I hope you all have a lovely relaxing weekend.  I will see the children on Tuesday.

Best wishes
