New Club Starting After Christmas
This week the children had a demonstration of Capoeira. Capoeira is a Brazilian Art form that puts together in a game elements of dance, martial art, acrobatics and music. The kids will learn the basic moves having fun with games, they will have a taste of the instruments, learn about team work and bit by bit of the Portuguese language. It’s a great way to improve their social skills, their co-ordination and their physical well being.
In summary, Capoeira is a fun and challenging game and great value for money: bits of martial art, dance, music and a foreign language all in one.
A letter will be coming out before Christmas with more details. In the meantime ‘google’ Capoeira.
Finally,

Thank you to everyone who participated last Friday for ‘Children in Need’.
As a school we raised £245. Well done!
Yours sincerely

Office Hours and Reminders
Firstly, thank you to everyone for the patience and cooperation with the new office set up. So far it seems to be going very smoothly.
The route to the school office will change with a new gate being put in by the village playground. This will stop access during school time through the reception playground. We will notify you of the change when the work is completed.
Also, just a reminder that parents should not be walking through the school to access their children’s classroom. The new entrance foyer has a secure key pad system for staff use only. Therefore, if you visit the office you will need to go back outside to access your child’s classroom. You will not be able to pass through the office area.
Hilltop and Jarman Centre
Many thanks to all those parents who have sent in deposits for the Year 6 trip to Hilltop and the Year 5 trip to the Jarman Centre. These are now booked and going ahead. The Year 6 Hilltop trip will be from Monday, 21st June to Wednesday, 23rd June and the Year 5 Jarman Centre trip will be from Wednesday, 24th March to Friday, 26th March.
It would be helpful if parents started making monthly payments on these trips with their child’s paying in books.

Next Friday, 20th November, is ‘Children In Need’. Two things will be happening that day:
- Non uniform – cost 50p – come in spots if at all possible.
- Cake stall at morning break time. All cakes either 20p or 10p.
If possible, we would appreciate as many cakes, biscuits or popcorn as possible on the day in order to sell to the children at break time. Please bring your contribution to school either Thursday afternoon up to 4.30pm or first thing Friday morning.
Operation Christmas Child
Many thanks for all the lovely boxes we have already received. If you need any spare leaflets, there are some in the office. They will be collecting the boxes from us on Monday, 23rd November so they need to be to the school office by 9.00am that morning.
Best wishes

A group of children from Years 3 to 6 have just returned from five very enjoyable days in Miskolc, Hungary, as part of the Comenius-funded Springboard to Language Esperanto exchange project.
As well as experiencing a day in the local school, we visited the Miskolc Cave Baths, the Diósgyőr castle ruins, and had a walk in the forests of the nearby National Park to visit some caves.
Despite some trepidation before the trip about whether we would get on with our host families, whether we would like the food, and so on – I have heard nothing but enthusiastically positive reports from the parents and children concerned. The host families were very friendly and accommodating, and although we didn’t always recognise the food, it turned out to be pretty tasty. Not exactly low fat or low salt (Jamie Oliver would have had a fit in their school kitchen!) but it was really, really tasty!
In all, it was a very successful trip! Thanks very much to all the children, parents and staff who made it possible.
Next: a group of Bar Hill children will be travelling to Herzberg-am-Harz, Germany during the Easter holidays (9th to 13th April 2010). Places will be limited, so sign up soon if you’d like to take part!

Dear Parent/Carers
***Stop Press***
Building work for the Children’s Centre will commence straight after half-term and therefore we will be moving the school office. The new temporary office (approximately November 2009 to March 2010) will be based in the spare Year 5/6 classroom. The entrance door for the school office will now be off the children’s playground. There is a rail and ramp and it will be clearly signposted.
From this date parents will not be able to walk through the school to access their children’s classroom. The new entrance foyer will have a secure key pad system for staff use only. Therefore, if you visit the office you will need to go back outside to access your child’s classroom. You will not be able to pass through the office area.
On Monday, 2nd November staff will be on the playground from 8.30am to direct you to the correct classroom door. There will only be two gates available for access into school property. One is the small gate opposite the library and the other is the back gate by the all-weather court.
We apologise for any disruption this causes.
Operation Christmas Child
Along with this newsletter your child will be bringing home a leaflet about Operation Christmas Child.
Each year more and more of our children are filling shoe boxes for children who will have no Christmas presents otherwise. These boxes go all over the world to those most in need.
Last year we sent 67 boxes. If you need any spare leaflets, let us know.
Family Photos
These are being collected sometime on Monday, 2nd November. Any remaining photos must be in the school office by Monday morning at 9.00am.

Well done to all the classes. The following amounts were raised by each class:
- Mrs Bailham £172.00

- Mrs Gawthrope £126.00

I am very grateful the PTA and the friends of the PTA who gave up a day to run this very successful event.
Esperanto Trip To Hungary
A group of children from Year 3 to 6 have just come back from five very enjoyable days in Hungary as part of the Comenius funded Springboard To Languages project.
As well as spending time in a Hungarian school the children and parents received a very warm and friendly welcome from our Hungarian host families.
We even made the local television news!
Poppy Appeal
From Monday, 2nd November to Friday, 6th November the Year 6 children will be going around to the classroom so your child can buy a poppy. There is no set amount to give but a donation to this cause is much appreciated by the Royal British Legion.
I hope you all have a lovely half-term and we will see the children on Monday, 2nd November.
Yours sincerely

Sky Blue Theatre’s Dramawise has moved to Bar Hill School! Classes are now held on Tuesdays from 5.00pm to 7.00pm in the studio. These sessions are lots of fun as well as helping proficiency in English and Drama, increasing confidence and developing communication skills. Dramawise allows children to let their imaginations fly as they learn about life and the arts through improvisation and teamwork with excellent results.
If your child would like a free trial session just bring them along or if you would like more information google www.skybluetheatre.com or call Frances on 01223-832288.
Walk to School Week
Next week is Walk to School Week and the theme this term is ‘Count Me In’. The number of children travelling to school has doubled in the past 20 years and now around 40% of school trips are made by car, nationally. Nearly half of all children do not do the recommended one hour of physical exercise every day.
Why not join in next week and leave the car at home. Walking to school can easily contribute to your child’s daily exercise and save you money. We will also be doing various activities in school to coincide with Walk To School 2009.
