Newsletter 05: 23/10/09

Posted on October 23rd, 2009 by Webmaster

Dear Parent/Carers

***Stop Press***
Building work for the Children’s Centre will commence straight after half-term and therefore we will be moving the school office.  The new temporary office (approximately November 2009 to March 2010) will be based in the spare Year 5/6 classroom.  The entrance door for the school office will now be off the children’s playground.  There is a rail and ramp and it will be clearly signposted.

From this date parents will not be able to walk through the school to access their children’s classroom.  The new entrance foyer will have a secure key pad system for staff use only.  Therefore, if you visit the office you will need to go back outside to access your child’s classroom.  You will not be able to pass through the office area.

On Monday, 2nd November staff will be on the playground from 8.30am to direct you to the correct classroom door.  There will only be two gates available for access into school property.  One is the small gate opposite the library and the other is the back gate by the all-weather court.

We apologise for any disruption this causes.

Operation Christmas Child
Along with this newsletter your child will be bringing home a leaflet about Operation Christmas Child.

Each year more and more of our children are filling shoe boxes for children who will have no Christmas presents otherwise.  These boxes go all over the world to those most in need.

Last year we sent 67 boxes.  If you need any spare leaflets, let us know.

Family Photos
These are being collected sometime on Monday, 2nd November.  Any remaining photos must be in the school office by Monday morning at 9.00am.

Bouncing For Books
Well done to all the classes.  The following amounts were raised by each class:

  • Mrs Bailham  £172.00
  • Mrs Hackett  £196.00
  • Miss Higgins  £211.00
  • Mr Herring  £167.00
  • Mrs Gawthrope £126.00
  • Ms White  £179.00
  • Mrs Mayer  £  79.00
  • Mrs Tabram  £  72.00

I am very grateful the PTA and the friends of the PTA who gave up a day to run this very successful event.

Esperanto Trip To Hungary
A group of children from Year 3 to 6 have just come back from five very enjoyable days in Hungary as part of the Comenius funded Springboard To Languages project.

As well as spending time in a Hungarian school the children and parents received a very warm and friendly welcome from our Hungarian host families.

We even made the local television news!

Poppy Appeal
From Monday, 2nd November to Friday, 6th November the Year 6 children will be going around to the classroom so your child can buy a poppy.  There is no set amount to give but a donation to this cause is much appreciated by the Royal British Legion.

I hope you all have a lovely half-term and we will see the children on Monday, 2nd November.

Yours sincerely

Lin Whyte
Headteacher
